TEDDY BEAR PROJECT A HEALTH AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
On March 2, 2019, medical students visited Sardam International School, a SABIS® PPP school in Kurdistan, to hold a health awareness campaign for students from KG 2 to Grade 1.
The medical students organized a Teddy Bear Hospital activity using simple role play. The students were each given a teddy bear to see a teddy doctor. The children had to act as the teddys parent and take charge, making the decision to see the doctor. The doctor then talked about x-rays, operations, and how the teddy bear could be cared for. At the end of the day, students were asked how they felt about the process and had the opportunity to discuss anything that was concerning them or they felt fearful of.
The campaign was designed to help young students lose their fears of doctors and the hospital environment. “It is a great opportunity for the kids to overcome their fear toward hospital and doctors. It was clear that they enjoyed every single moment and we are now looking forward to having similar events in the future,” said a teacher.
